The experience: Shenga offers the very first range of fair trade lingerie made of 100% Cambodian silk. Sensual silk is the perfect material for elegant underwear and accessories. Shenga is currently the only underwear production workshop in Cambodia. Shenga offers a great range of designs and sizes to create a personalised lingerie set for any occasion. All items are handmade and include delicate embroidery.
Shenga’s goal is to promote sustainability in Cambodia through the production of a very unique and attractive product, requiring both traditional skills and a technical savoir-faire. Shenga seamstresses ensure the company offers unique, high-quality garments, bras and panties, as well as dressing gowns, night dresses and men’s boxers. How it helps: Shenga is fully committed to the principles of fair trade. Shenga seamstresses all come from impoverished families around Siem Reap. All staff are given extensive training and enjoy good working conditions. They are guaranteed a stable job and learn a lasting skill which they can use for the rest of their working career.
Shenga works directly with weavers who are from other fair-trade companies or NGOs. As fair-trade organizations, all of the Shenga partners pay decent wages to the local artisans and use ecofriendly products for treating the silk. Shenga’s silk is supplied by silk weaving organisations working to revive this traditional industry in Banteay Meanchey and Takeo provinces. This is helping to safeguard jobs in rural areas and ensuring the revival of the silk industry in Cambodia. For packaging, Shenga only purchases recycled paper produced in a village near Angkor.
